Meet Magoo, a Muay Thai fighter based in Rhode Island. Learn more about this athlete who is fueled by goalFOOD, in his own words:
“I’m originally from Chatham, Massachusetts – on Cape Cod. I’m fortunate to have had the support of my parents through the years. They instilled in me to always achieve my dreams and never give up no matter how difficult things are, one of the reasons I have “Persevere and Overcome” tattooed across my neck. It’s a reminder for myself, and a positive message for others to see.
“I moved to Rhode Island to train at Burke’s Martial Arts and pursue my career of becoming a world champion Muay Thai fighter. It wasn’t easy; I was struggling financially trying to make ends meet, and sleeping out of my car before I could afford a place to rent. Mr. Burke helped not only train me to be one of the best fighters in my weight class in the country, but he also helped me so much on a personal level. He gave me the opportunities to have an amazing career, a job, a place to live, a beautiful set of wheels (I love my truck – haha). I’ve been training with Mr. Burke now for about four years, and he’s been like my second father since I’ve moved here.
Since then, I’ve fought in some of America’s biggest Muay Thai promotions, Lion Fight, Warriors Cup, Friday night fights, and even some large stadiums in Thailand such as Max Muay Thai. I’ve been to Thailand three times now, and also beaten some of the best amateur champions in my weight class. I love what I do and I want to see others live with the same passion and realize how great a life you are capable of. Everyone has greatness within them, but we don’t always see that. I never thought I could do the things I have done until my parents, and Mr. Burke, believed in me. Without them I wouldn’t have thought I could be one of the best. Life is all about giving back more than you’ve received and if I can help people to never give up and achieve their dreams I feel like it’s my way of giving thanks for all the blessings, opportunities and great people I’ve experienced in my life.”
